Community, education & not-for-profit website experience

Web design experience across organisations with different audiences

Website Adelaide works with smaller community organisations, education providers, charities and not-for-profits across Adelaide and South Australia.

EXPERIENCE ACROSS THE SECTOR

Examples from our community and education web experience

The organisations we have supported range from heritage museums and education providers to food-relief charities, volunteer services and early learning organisations.

The website challenge is often less about presenting one service and more about helping several different audiences understand where they fit and what they need to do next.

The following projects are a selection of that experience.

01 · Heritage museum, education and not-for-profit organisation

National Railway Museum

Location: Port Adelaide, South Australia

The National Railway Museum had a large amount of existing information and several very different audiences, including families, schools, researchers, members and supporters.

The challenge was not simply adding more content. It was reorganising the website so each audience could reach the information most relevant to them.

We retained useful existing material, developed substantial new content and structured the site around visits, education, research, membership and support. Venue hire, retail, donations and bequests were also incorporated without losing the museum’s core heritage purpose.

This project reinforced how important audience pathways become when one organisation serves people with very different reasons for visiting.

02 · Food relief charity and community support

House of Power

Location: Sedan, regional South Australia

House of Power was a new charity with new food-relief model.

People seeking assistance needed to understand how the pre-loaded card and vending-machine system worked, while donors and partner businesses needed a very different explanation of how they could contribute.

We structured the website around three clear pathways: accessing help, becoming a partner and supporting the charity.

The content explains the process practically while keeping dignity, privacy and discretion central to the organisation’s positioning.

The project showed how clarity can be especially important when the service model is new and the audiences have very different needs.

03 · Environmental education and school incursions

Planet Earth for Kids

Location: South Australia

Planet Earth for Kids combines environmental, animal and creative teaching experience in a way that was not immediately obvious to teachers encountering the business for the first time.

We organised the website around individual programs, curriculum relevance and practical learning outcomes, connecting environmental science with music, drama and art while showing alignment with early learning frameworks and STEM capabilities.

This work highlighted the difference between describing an activity as engaging and giving teachers enough information to understand its educational relevance.

OUR INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE

Different audiences change the website pathway

Across these projects, the starting point for the visitor has varied considerably.

A museum visitor may be looking for opening hours and tickets. A teacher wants program information and curriculum relevance. A donor may want to understand where support goes, while someone seeking community assistance first needs to know whether the service is available to them.

Training organisations introduce another layer, with apprentices, employers and career changers often needing different information from the same provider.

That experience has shown us that the internal structure of an organisation is not always the most useful structure for its website.

OUR INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE

Practical information can carry significant weight

Community and not-for-profit projects have also reinforced the importance of being specific about eligibility, accessibility and service limitations.

For a person trying to access assistance, details such as location, registration requirements, geographic boundaries or transport limitations can be more useful than broad statements about accessibility or inclusion.

The same principle applies to education as well. Age groups, course entry requirements, delivery formats, funding eligibility and program expectations can all affect whether an opportunity is relevant.

In these sectors, practical detail often forms part of the trust in the organisation rather than sitting separately from its purpose or mission.

OUR INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE

Established organisations often carry valuable legacy content

Another recurring consideration has been the amount of information established organisations accumulate over time.

Some have had years of valuable material that needed organising rather than simply replacing.

Similar challenges can arise with policies, reports, course information, forms, newsletters and program resources.

Our experience has shown that redevelopment is often about identifying what remains useful and reconnecting it with current audiences rather than using all existing material.

OUR INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE

Wider community and education experience

The featured projects are only part of our experience in this sector.

Over the years, we have also worked with il nido Children’s Centre, where their website connects long daycare, preschool, playgroups, allied health and family support as part of one broader service from birth through to school.

Website Adelaide has also worked with FCTA Building Careers for many years, a registered training organisation. Their website help apprentices; employers and career changers understand qualifications, WorkReady pathways, fee-free training eligibility and enrolment information.

We also continue to support Willunga District Community Bus, a volunteer-run service where registration, practical accessibility and clear service boundaries are central to how people use the website.

Together, these projects give us experience across heritage, education, training, early learning, community support and volunteer-led services.

OUR INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE

Community and education experience across South Australia

Our experience includes organisations serving metropolitan Adelaide, regional South Australia and tightly defined local communities.

The geographic model can differ significantly between an organisation operating statewide and a community service supporting a particular group of towns or suburbs.
